MARINE RADIO LICENCE

Book your exam for 2024

The steps to obtaining your Short Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP - VHF) and Long Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP - VHF/MF/HF) licences.

SROCP (VHF)

  1. Read the VHF Operators 2022 Handbook (you can purchase it here)
  2. Do the SROCP revision questions by clicking here
  3. Book your exam time by clicking here and selecting BOOK NOW - make sure you are logged into your Facebook account or the BOOK NOW button won't show up. (If you don't have a Facebook account.....good lord, it's 2024......anyway, if you don't have a Facebook account please contact shop@thenavigationcentre.com.au and we will book you in. We will need your mobile number to do the booking).
  4. Once you have booked your timeslot please send a message through Facebook or email (shop@thenavigationcentre.com.au) with your full name, date of birth, phone number and email address.  We need this information to set up your online exam (you still need to come into our premises to sit the exam).
  5. Please allow 24hrs (on business days) to get your details logged into the system in Tasmania.  I don't do that part of the booking so we need to allow a little notice in case they are busy down south.
  6. Sit your exam at our premises 61 Perkins Street, South Townsville.
  7. Allow 45 minutes to sit your exam and do the small practical test.
  8. You can sit your exam Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm, Fridays 10am to 2pm or Saturday 9am to 1pm.
  9. There are 25 multiple choice questions.
  10. We can only have one person at a time sit for their exam due to the size of the space we have.
  11. Please bring a tablet or laptop with you when you come for your exam.  You can connect to our Wifi for the exam.
  12. Pay your $130 licence fee on arrival at The Navigation Centre the day of sitting your exam.  This is a one off fee.  There are no ongoing fees.  The SROCP (VHF) Marine Radio Licence is perpetual.
  13. You will know your result at the end of your exam but your physical licence still has to be mailed to you and this could take up to 15 business days (but that's ok because you will already know your result).
  14. Lastly, I will take your photo on the day of your exam so have a good hair day :-)
