WE DO NOT PROVIDE

Cold drinks, meals, snacks, sunscreen, sun hats, sun glasses, towels, covered clothing for engine room/slipway visits, safety boots or navigation equipment.

Elements of Shipboard Safety

Towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat
Wetsuits are NOT permitted.  Long pants, long sleeve shirt and covered footwear (sandshoes).  You will be swimming in this clothing as well as taking part in putting out a fire.  If you do not have long pants, long sleeve shirt and covered footwear, you can not take part in the practical and therefore will not complete the course.

PARKING

Parking is in the street (Seventh Street)  We do ask that you do NOT park in front of our doorway as our couriers, customers and shipping agents need to use that space during business hours).

Covered footwear, neat casual clothing, no singlets and no thongs.

TERMS and CONDITIONS
1.  Full course fee is to be paid on enrolment to The Navigation Centre.
2.  The Navigation Centre reserves the right to cancel a fulltime attendance course at short notice.
3.  If The Navigation Centre cancels a fulltime attendance course, the student has the right to a full course refund or can elect to be transferred to the next available course.
4.  Notice of intention to withdraw from a course must be given by the student in writing to The Navigation Centre at least five (5) working days prior to commencement of the course, for a full course fee refund.
5.  Notice of intention to withdraw from a course by a student within five working days of a course starting will result in a 75% course fee refund unless a medical certificate is produced to prove that the student cannot ever complete the course.
6.  Refunds will be processed within seven working days of cancellation.
7.  Less than 24 hours’ notice to withdraw from a course by a student will result in a NIL refund. A doctor’s certificate must be produced for the student to be transferred to the next available fulltime attendance course (numbers pending).
8.  The administration fee of $35 is non-refundable.
9.  Study textbooks, navigation equipment, charts, stationery, meals, accommodation, transport, internet use and computer will be at the student’s expense.
10.  All Students will be enrolled in the online Moodle portal except those doing Marine Radio and ESS.
11.  Assignments will be marked within five working days by The Navigation Centre and the student notified of the result.
12.  Student wanting to talk to a teacher must phone 07 4772 1069 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
13.  Student to email peter@thenavigationcentre.com.au if they wish to talk to or email a teacher.
14.  Appointments can be made by emailing peter@thenavigationcentre.com.au  An appointment must be made to meet with a teacher.
15.  Student must have an email address to be enrolled in the online portal.
16.  Assessments and the practical component of each course must be done under examination conditions in our classroom at1/9 Railway Avenue, Railway Estate, Townsville.
17.  Photographic permission: You give authorisation to The Navigation Centre to freely use any photographs and images for training purposes, recording of client training, recognition statements, promotion and web networking. If you are not willing to partake in any training images, photos or videos you are required to advise The Navigation Centre staff on arrival.
18.  SMOKING: Not permitted aboard the training vessels or within the venue or classroom; is allowed in designated areas where there is an ashtray, and well away from flammable liquids.
19.  DRUGS & ALCOHOL: No student to be under the influence or be in possession of any drugs or alcohol while in the classroom at The Navigation Centre, on the training vessel or during vessel/shipyard visits.
20.  FIRST AID: A designated first aid officer and first aid supplies are available at The Navigation Centre and on-board each training vessel. All injuries sustained onsite or on the water should be reported to The Navigation Centre and the trainer. If you require first aid you must quickly, loudly and firmly ask for help.
21.  Students eligible for a certificate will receive their certificate directly from the RTO that we contract to.
22.  All courses have a completion time of twelve months from the date of enrolment.
23.  EXTENSIONS: A student may apply for an extension to their allocated twelve months. Request for extension must be received in writing no less than 14 days prior to the course completion by emailing shop@thenavigationcentre.com.au
24.  Students sitting a Marine Radio course shall provide, at their own cost, a colour passport photo of themselves taken within the last 12 months.
25.  Student to receive a photocopy of the Terms and Conditions signed page upon enrolment.
26.   No student can attend the Assessment and Practical component of their course without first having passed all of their assignments.

ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display Information System) 
The five day (40 hr) ECDIS course is run in Cairns at the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College, Tingira Street, Portsmith.

COMPASS ADJUSTERS THEORY COURSE:  For information regarding the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) approved Compass Adjuster's Theory Course 2007 that was run in August and September 2007 - Click Here  We do not know when/if we will be running another Compass Adjuster's Theory Course as yet, so please keep checking our website - it will be posted on here as soon as information comes to hand.  (last updated 5 January 2015)
